Hi! I'm Mercer, a high school student passionate about data and how it conveys information. My passion for data led me to data visualization, allowing me to take information on a massive scale and par it down to something understandable. Better yet, I could help other people understand things as well. For example, I did a series of visualizations on the funding of political campaigns. I was able to make seemingly endless webs of corruption come into critical focus.
To create my data visualizations, I use Python for data pre-processing on larger data sets and to help plot the initial graphs. For smaller datasets, I will start with a preliminary graph in Google Sheets. I then use Photoshop to help make the charts more approachable and visually appealing.
I am proficient in Python and am learning HTML, CSS, and Java. On top of coding languages, I utilize a few programs, such as Photoshop, and I am learning to use Tableau. I won NCWIT’s Aspirations in Computing 2023 Honorable Mention of the Central Texas Affiliate.
Outside of coding and data, I enjoy photography, collage, crochet, and writing. I am also an avid music and concert fan.
